Henry II (1154-1189) Penny ND (1158-1180) VF35 NGC, Canterbury mint, Goldhavoc as moneyer, Cross and Crosslets (Tealby) type, S-1337. 19mm. 1.44gm. NRI REX | ΛN, crowned, mantled, and armored bust of Henry facing, scepter in right hand / OLDhΛVOC: ON: C, large cross potent with small potent in each angle, small cross in saltire in center. The first example of this eye-catching early type of Henry II that we have offered in the past three years, possessed of a singular allure often lacking from the later short and long cross coinage of Henry and his successors, and cut by an intriguing moneyer to wit.
