Showa aluminum Pattern 50 Sen Year 13 (1938) MS61 NGC, KM-Pn69 (cf. KM-Y50 for type). Virtually identical to the silver circulation issue, this aluminum example features the emblematic Japanese sunburst motif with two phoenixes flanking the denomination and value. The lightly-dappled surfaces are somewhat reflective in nature, featuring only the occasional wisp, and strong definition across the devices is readily apparent. Several smaller denominations/metal combinations from this 1938 Pattern series have been offered in the marketplace throughout the years, however, the 50 Sen appears to be quite elusive. While the exact mintage figure is unknown, one can presume that it is rather limited, which further adds to the appeal of this highly-engaging selection.
