Republic Sun Yat-sen Pattern "Mausoleum" Dollar Year 16 (1927) MS62 NGC, Kann-609, L&M-85. Designed by Richard Placht of the Vienna mint and struck in a very limited run of approximately 480 pieces. This rare pattern was ultimately rejected for its design, which was considered to feature an inaccurate portrayal of both Sun Yat-sen and the reverse mausoleum (not yet built at the time) for which the type is named. Few of these survive, given their low mintage and subsequent rejection, rendering a Mint State example such as this a particular sight to behold, and certainly even more so to own. Lustrous with glistening argent surfaces, which display a hint of almond tone that concentrates in a framing effect at the peripheries.
