Description

Charles IV gold Escudo 1795 LIMAE-IJ AU Details (Mount Removed) NGC, Lima mint, KM89, Cal-1089. A flashy representative of a diminutive gold type that we have yet to handle, and based on the paucity of auction records for this date, other firms as well. While NGC notes mount removal for their details designation, the cataloger sees this more as a result of poor planchet quality and strike, citing various bubbles and the elongated shape. Regardless, the specimen's importance remains undiminished, ranking as the sole certified example and is rare as such.
