Description

Philip IV "Royal" 8 Reales 1630 P-T XF Details (Plugged, Holed) NGC, Potosi mint, KM-R19a, Cal-1379, Lazaro-93 (RX). 26.73gm. Juan Ximénez de Tapia as assayer. This exceptionally rare galano or redondo originates from the early Philip IV series, with most "Royal" dates from the 1630s documented by Lazaro as either unique or with fewer than three known examples. The year 1630 is often regarded as the first definitive date for galanos from Potosí, marking the peak of a minting initiative that began in Bolivia in 1626. However, due to a general lack of quality control, many of these coins were struck on an ad hoc basis, failing to meet the high standards now associated with this type. An engaging representative regardless of the noted qualifiers and one of just three currently certified, boasting commendable centering and ample remnant detail, all coalescing into a top-tier target for the Peruvian specialist. Accompanied by the original collector envelope. HID09801242017 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
