Julia Titi (ca. AD 79-90/1). AR denarius (19mm, 3.25 gm, 6h). NGC Choice Fine 4/5 - 2/5, scratches, flan flaw, brushed. Rome, AD 80-81. IVLIA AVGVSTA TITI AVGVSTI F•, draped bust of Julia Titi right, seen from front, hair bunched in front of stephane, thickly braided into long queue hanging down at back / VENVS-AVGVSTI, Venus Callipyge, seen half from behind, nude to hips, standing right, resting left elbow on column, transverse scepter in left hand, helmet in outstretched right. RIC II.1 (Titus) 388. Pale maroon and cyan toning throughout. The reverse image of Venus is likely modeled after the marble Roman statue - Aphrodite Kallipygos (Callipygian Venus) - from the late 1st century BC, in turn thought to be a copy of an older Greek statue, and literally means "Venus (Aphrodite) of the beautiful buttocks."
