Description

Louis XV gold "Le Chameau" Louis d'Or 1724-H UNC Details (Cleaned) NGC, La Rochelle mint, KM470.8, Fr-459, Gad-339. Salvaged from the "Le Chameau" (sunk in 1725 off Nova Scotia, Canada). The French ship Chameau carried passengers between France and New France (Canada). Carrying large amounts of gold and silver, it got blown by a storm onto rocks on August, 1725, with all tripulants succumbing with the ship. In the 1960's, the wreck was located and salvaging begun. According to the salvaging team and documents from 1726, nearly all the treasure has been recovered, bringing to market several silver Ecus, these with heavy corrosion; and an ample amount of gold Louis d'ors in high grades and with rare mint/date combinations, some unheard of prior to the wreck's discovery.
