Description

Mauritius Government of Mauritius 5 Rupees 1.7.1924 Pick 16 PMG Very Fine 20. The Mauritian Rupee was introduced in 1876, mainly because of the mass influx of Indian Rupees and immigration at the time. These early notes imitate the style of contemporary notes, with steel plate designs and intricate anti-counterfeiting designs. Though no printer's imprint is seen, these were undoubtedly printed in Britain and then delivered to the African islands to be stamped with the signatures and then issued. British crest, and view of Port Louis on face. Its our opinion that these early uniface issues for the island is underrated. From the Yuri Solovey Collection of Africa
