Carlos IV bronze Specimen "Jean Pierre Droz's Multi-Die Invention" Medal 1801 SP64 Brown PCGS, Bramsen-187, Julius-1035, Vives-191, Prado-81. 39.5mm. 28.03gm. By M. G. Sepulveda. Edge: Decorated rims inscribed with "ACUNA SUPERFICIE Y CANTO A UN SOLO GOLPE" and flora. UNION AUGUSTA. Conjoined busts of King Charles IV and Queen Maria Luisa facing right, M.G.S. below truncation / EVITANDO EL FRAUDE DILACION Y GASTOS IDENTIFICA/LOS SIGNOS; J.P.DROZ INVENTOR DEL METODO DE MULTIPLICAR LOS TROQUELES. Five lines of text within inner circle. Struck to commemorate J.P. Droz's invention of multiple-die production to prevent fraud and tampering in which both sides and the rims were simultaneously struck at once. The technology was adopted by Spanish mints in 1803.
