British Colony. Victoria 1/2 Dollar (50 Cents) 1867 MS63 PCGS, Hong Kong mint, KM8, Prid-5. An unfathomable representative from one of the most elusive issues struck during Hong Kong's fleeting 3-year production period. While Choice specimens of the largest denomination, the Dollar, generally garner the most interest, finding a comparable 1/2 Dollar issue can be immensely more challenging; our auctions have seen only 5 in the last two decades, four of which have been circulated with conditional modifiers. The piece on offer is distinctly different and in a class unto itself, broadcasting mint brilliance at the slightest turn of the wrist, serving to elevate a mottled polychromatic patina throughout. Of those currently certified between both grading services, our offering stands solely at the peak of the censuses, and is likely to remain there as it has for at least the last twenty years when we first offered it as part of the Wayne Newton Palmer Collection in 2004.
