Early Ptolemaic issue of Memphis (or Alexandria), under Ptolemy I Soter, as satrap, ca. 323/2-317/1 BC. Head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck / ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, Zeus seated left on backless throne, right leg drawn back, feet on stool, eagle in right hand, scepter in left; rose in left field, ΔI-O beneath strut and in inner right field. Price 3971. Excellent centering. Scattered light roughness, accounting for surface grade. Tetradrachms of Alexander from the mint of Memphis, Egypt are widely regarded as stylistically the most beautiful in the series.
