George III silver "Relief of Gibraltar" Medal 1783 UNC (scratched), Eimer-801. 59mm. Edge plain. By L. Pingo. Awarded to British officers who participated in the defence of Gibraltar, this lustrous large-size silver medal exhibits exceptionally sharp detail and is essentially free from wear. Within the plan of the bay of Gibraltar the sea shows a circular 'whirlpool' of scratches which has been followed by a rainbow tone, but none of this has disturbed the actual scene at all. A very attractive specimen, a type scarcely offered for sale and sure to excite collectors of British military-related medals.
