Description

Edward IV (First Reign, 1461-1470) gold Ryal ND (1466-1469) MS62 NGC, London mint, Coronet mm, S-1951, N-1549. 7.71gm. Crowned king with sword and shield standing facing in ship, Є in banner at stern, large rose on hull / Rose in radiant sun over floriate cross, crowns and lions in angles, small trefoils in spandrels. A fully defined example of this popular late medieval denomination, perfectly struck (albeit it with rather aged dies). Scarcely encountered in Mint State, considerable residual luster graces the fields of this specimen, the detail bold and appealing to the eye.
