George II gold Guinea 1738 MS62 NGC, KM573.3, Fr-339, S-3674, Farey-830 (Very Rare). An altogether elusive denomination of this date, with examples of 2 and 5 Guineas seen in our sales with much greater frequency. In fact, the last specimen we handled was this very piece in 2018, thus confirming its overall scarcity. Illumination reveals scintillating luster that carries admirably across the straw-gold surfaces, projecting George's portrait and crowned arms when viewed in-hand. The sole finest of just three submitted across both grading services and sure to land in an advanced cabinet when brought to market. Ex.
