Pedro I 960 Reis 1827-R AU58 NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM368.1, LMB-508a, Bentes-474.37. Overstruck on a Minas Gerais countermarked 960 Reis, originally struck over an earlier 8 Reales. A low mintage date for the Rio de Janeiro mint, and surprisingly well struck, with any remnant details of the host coin obliterated, allowing only traces of the countermark to remain. An appropriately graded near-Mint State example featuring only the most trivial wisps of handling to the highest points, while autumnal tones populate the recesses of the devices. Ex.
