Carol II gold "Jubilee" 100 Lei 1940 AU55 PCGS, Bucharest mint, KM-XM12, Fr-19, Stamb-111. By E. W. Becker. Uncircled bust variety. Coin alignment. Reeded edge. Commemorating the first decade of Carol II's reign. One of the more attractive compositions in all of Romanian numismatics, which is no small feat. Despite the obverse "flyspecks," almost always seen on the type, this example projects a wonderfully ornamented design and a bright, yet decadently rich amber-honey patina. Carol II's scandalous reign ended in 1940 with his forced abdication following his acquiescence to German and Italian demands during to the so-called Vienna Diktat, which led to significant territorial losses and a complete discrediting of Carol II's foreign policy.
