George V gold Proof Pattern 6 Pence 1924 PR64 PCGS, KM-PnE121, W&R-430 (R6), Bull-3891. 3.06gm. One of only three known examples of this 6 Pence trial in gold, each example lightly marked with its number of production, each unique in its weight. This piece is #2, exhibiting a light "2" on George's nose while the reverse "2" is in the field in front of the lion is a bit more crudely made. Besides these markings that help identify the special nature and purpose of this rare trials, the surfaces have been well-preserved; the gold has toned to an admirable light butterscotch color and the surfaces are powerfully lustrous, even if the obverse has bit more of a matte-like appearance. A special offering from the reign of George V that should be of paramount interest to 6 Pence collectors and trial enthusiasts alike. Ex.
