Sextus Pompey, as Prefect of the Fleet (43-35 BC). AR denarius (20mm, 3.78 gm, 10h). Choice VF, tooled. Uncertain mint in Sicily, ca. 42 or 37/6 BC. MAG•PI-VS-IMP•ITER (MA ligate), diademed head of Neptune right, trident at shoulder / PRAEF•CLAS•ET•O-R-AE•MARIT•EX•S•C (AE and MAR ligate), naval trophy set on anchor, top of trident visible above, arms built of prow on left, aplustre on right, heads of marine monsters (Scylla and Charybdis) at base. Crawford 511/2b (42-40 BC). Sydenham 1347. CRI 333. Evidence of tooling, thus ineligible for encapsulation.
