Hupeh. Kuang-hsü "Small Characters" Tael Year 30 (1904) UNC Details (Spot Removed) PCGS, Wuchang mint, KM-Y128.2, L&M-180, Kann-933, WS-0878. Small characters variety. A contested and short-lived issue, introduced as part of a projected coinage reform based on the traditional system of Chinese weights, rather than the relatively recently introduced decimalized Dollar system. However, the type was ultimately met with opposition due to the difficulty and cumbersomeness of converting between the two different monetary units. While not quite as scarce as its large characters cousin, the present specimen has to its credit a truly singular eye appeal. HID09801242017 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
