Q•CASSIVS-VEST, diademed, veiled head of Vesta right / Curule chair within temple of Vesta, shown as a circular edifice with a domed roof surmounted by statue of Vesta standing facing, head left, decorated with griffin heads on dome base, supported by six columns; urn in left field, raised tablet inscribed A C (Absolvo Condomno) in right field. Crawford 428/1. Sydenham 916. Cassia 7. A wonderful specimen, its backlit luster illuminates the piece, while its slight charcoal toning adds a touch of sophisticated depth. As on Crawford 413/1 of L. Cassius Longinus, the obverse/reverse combination on this issue refers to the Trial of the Vestal Virgins in 113 BC, presided over by the moneyer's ancestor, L.
