Victoria gold "Shield - Inverted A" Sovereign 1880-S AU58 NGC, Sydney mint, KM6, S-3855. Among the Australian Victoria sovereign coin series, this particular variety stands out due to its distinctive error: the 'V' in 'VICTORIA' is mistakenly stamped with an upside-down 'A'. This prominent mistake was likely identified and amended shortly after production began, resulting in a scarcity of these coins, especially when nearing Mint State conditions. The selection at hand here shows a peppering of light handling marks on the obverse, yet the protected areas still host ample original luster. The reverse is wonderfully lustrous, with minimal evidence of circulation. Considering there scarcity of availability to commerce in this elevated quality, we anticipate spirited bidding from advanced collectors. HID09801242017 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
