Description

"La Boticaria" Shipwreck 10-Piece Lot of Assorted Caliber Musket Balls ND, Total weight 273.26gm. Average diameter 19mm. Accompanied by COA. salvaged from the "La Boticaria" (sunk in 1681 or 1682 off Isla de Naranjas, Panama). This fascinating 10-piece lot of various caliber musket balls give us a glimpse into the earliest forms of hoplology and ballistics used on naval vessels. A very interesting piece is the larger musket ball with the wire through it, perhaps repurposed as a fishing weight and used by the original merchant crew while sailing or at port. Also known as the "Porto Bello Wreck" or the "1681 Fleet", these wreck sites off Porto Belo consist of three Spanish ships allegedly sunk by a storm in 1681 or 1682. Sold as is, no returns.
