Description

Utrecht. "Vliegenthart " Provincial gold Ducat 1729 MS62 NGC, KM7.4, Fr-285. Salvaged from the Vliegenthart (sunk in 1735 off Zeeland, the Netherlands). A historic, near-Choice piece that boasts a strong strike and lovely champagne-lemon surfaces. The Vliegenthart (Flying Hart) was an East Indiaman ship which, upon hit by bad weather, sunk with it's crew off Rammekens. Contemporary efforts by the Dutch East India Company to salvage the cargo weren't fruitful, but provided a treasure map which was rediscovered in the 1970's. An intact chest with Mexican silver and Dutch gold was recovered in 1983, with other 2 smashed chests and smaller boxes (likely contraband) of "Ducatoons" discovered later.
