Description

Philip V "Saint-Géran" 8 Reales 1741 Mo-MF AU (Saltwater Effect), Mexico City mint, KM103, Cal-1458. 26.58gm. Accompanied by COA's. Salvaged from the "Saint-Géran" (sunk in 1744 off Mauritius). Showing little to no signs of wear to the sparsely corroded surfaces. The Saint-Géran was a slave ship which carried colonists bound to Mauritius when wrecked on a reef in 1744. The incident provided the basis for the 1788 best seller "Paul et Virginie" by Bernadin de St. Pierre. HID09801242017 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
