temp. Charles & Johanna-Philip II silver Plata Corriente Ingot ND (c. 1500's), 51.45gm. Also known as "silver splash", Plata Corriente translates to "Running Silver", which was quite literally the precious metal in circulation in the early days of Colonization. These bits vary in size and form, some consisting of pieces chopped from large ingots/bars, while other are bits of smelter splatter which would be picked up in the assaying process. The piece in question shows a faint, but present tax stamp, indicating it's regal origin and not a contraband specimen. Light corrosion also can indicate being salvaged from an unknown wreck.
