Description

PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Ptolemy VI Philometor (180-145 BC). AR tetradrachm (28mm, 14.21 gm, 12h). NGC Choice XF 5/5 - 2/5, Fine Style. Alexandria. Diademed head of Ptolemy I right, aegis on neck / ΠTOΛEMAIOY-BAΣIΛEΩΣ, eagle standing left on thunderbolt. Svoronos 1489. SNG Copenhagen 262-8. Boldly struck and attractively toned. Reverse has a deep gray hue with a touch of flash in the right legends while the obverse is deeply toned with golden highlights in the hair detail. A few spots of horn silver in the right obverse field. Ex J Eric Engstrom Collection (CNG electronic auction 370, 9 March 2016), lot 219.
