Description

Charles II gold 8 Escudos 1687/3-BR AU58 NGC, Segovia mint, KM197, Onza-145 (Rare). During this time period, and particularly towards the end of the 17th Century, Spain was in the throws of political and economic strife. Questionable accounting practices and final desperate ordinations in an attempt to rectify the waning economy lead to the striking of this series. However, a lack of gold resources resulted in an intrinsic rarity for this emission. Furthermore, the exceptional quality of this piece, from the clearly discernable overdate, satisfying freshness expressed in the fields, and lustrous accents within the devices, make for a specimen that is on the very precipice of Mint State. A noteworthy piece of Spanish history and a wonderful opportunity for the discerning collector.
