Description

Kingdom of Holland. Louis Napoleon gold 10 Gulden 1810-B MS62 NGC, Utrecht mint, KM33, Fr-321, Schl-59. The quintessential type coin of the Napoleonic era, this example was issued during the final year of Louis Napoleon's reign before he was deposed by his brother the Emperor Napoleon for his failure to prioritize French political aims over those of his own realm. Accordingly, the type represents the final period of indirect French intervention in Holland, culminating in its direct absorption into the French Empire during the same year. While the large silver issues of Louis Napoleon's reign are quite scarce in Mint State, the level of rarity is amplified when one looks to the gold issues from the same period. Only a small handful of specimens have sold in recent years, with Mint State examples hammering at figures approaching or exceeding $40,000. The coin at hand rivals the very best of what has come to market, with its glassy and highly lustrous surfaces, full detail, and penetrating amber tone which greatly enhances its already magnificent appearance. A simply wonderful coin, one which most Napoleonic type collectors could only hope to own, and certainly one that will serve as a prime focal area in its future owner's cabinet.
