Description

George IV gold Proof 2 Pounds 1826 PR65 Ultra Cameo NGC, KM701, S-3799. An immensely popular British Proof type, and one approaching the ceiling of quality for the issue with only 2 examples certified finer by either NGC or PCGS (only one of which bears the Ultra Cameo designation). One sees 1826 Proofs enter the PR63 range reasonably often, and even PR64s are not unheard of. But in gem-level grade, an already-rare issue is rendered conditionally rarer still, and highly desirable as a result. The present specimen immediately captures the eye with its deeply reflective fields, inviting the viewer to take a closer look; further inspection reveals attractive frost to both George's portrait and the reverse draped shield. Hairlines are present in the fields (as is commonplace for issue), but hardly take away from what is in every regard an enticing and remarkably preserved Proof and one which we expect will garner considerable interest.
