Description

George II gold 5 Guineas 1741/38 MS64 S NGC, KM571.1, S-3663A. The most outstanding 5 Guineas, simply unmatched in its level of preservation. This immense gold denomination has never been found wanting for collector interest, but of late their popularity has simply exploded, making them highly contested in any grade. The present offering, however, is in a league unto itself; the highest grade assigned to any 5 Guineas by PCGS or NGC is MS64, rendering this MS64 S, technically speaking, the highest graded 5 Guineas extant. Quite how this piece has survived 278 years with this eye-appeal is a mystery. Its 'star' designation is well deserved--its surfaces positively blaze with luster, evident die-polish lines lending texture to the golden disk, not even cabinet friction present on the highest points. The only noticeable contact marks it bears are extremely light, and do nothing to diminish the wonder of this pristine specimen. A coin that absolutely needs to be seen to be believed, an extraordinary survivor and a veritable jewel of a 5 Guinea piece.
