Charles III gold Escudo 1766 So-∀ XF45 NGC, Santiago mint, c.f. Cal-12231. This piece is incorrectly attributed by NGC as a "V" assayer when in fact it is the much rarer (inverted) "A" assayer. Scarce as a type, this small, yet intriguing issue features the bust of Charles III and crowned arms set atop an antiqued golden flan, with graphite tone having gathered at the base of the raised elements. Handling and wear aligns with the given designation, and as a whole, this specimen absolutely excites.
