A choice depiction of the third labor of Hercules, the capture of the Hind of Ceryneia. Ceryneia was a town in Greece, about fifty miles from Eurystheus' palace in Mycenae. Hercules tracked the beast for an entire year until it finally tired and laid down on the mountain Artemisius, near the river Ladon. There are different versions of what happened next, one being Hercules captured it while it rested, put it on his shoulders and walked back to Mycenae.
