South African College gold Specimen Science Award Medal 1916 SP64 PCGS, 41mm. 34.43gm. By Messrs John Pinches, London. Awarded and engraved to Mildred Roper. A large and attractive South African gold medal, clearly an award for outstanding achievement; the SAC was founded in 1829 and exists today as the University of Cape Town and the South African College Schools. Noted in 1833 that the SAC was only attended by "wealthy young men", it is pleasing to see that by 1916 women at the college were clearly represented enough to allow Mildred Roper to receive this impressive award. Accompanied by an antique handwritten collector's envelope as pedigree.
