Description

Umayyad. temp. Yazid II (AH 101-105 / AD 720-724) gold Dinar AH 105 (AD 723/4) AU50 ANACS, No mint (likely Damascus), A-134, ICV-199, Bernardi-43. An early and very rare key date from the period of transition between Yazid's reign and that of his brother Hisham, struck in a rather expert manner, the calligraphy well-formed, evenly spaced and displaying only slight doubling and generally less flatness that is typically encountered. The flan itself appears exceptionally clean for the assigned grade, light flow lines still visible with only a few small traces of die rust and no real traces of wear on the highpoints.
