Description

Victoria Penny 1860/59 MS63 Brown NGC, KM739, S-3948, Peck-1521. One of the most popular (and rarest) Penny types, struck in the year the changeover from copper to bronze occurred in British minor coinage. Exceptionally scarce with only a small number minted, examples of this year rarely enter the market in higher grades; accordingly, this choice Mint State offering is highly unusual and desirable. Premium for the grade with few handling marks, only the usual die clash notable below Victoria's chin, designated as 'brown' although the planchet exhibits much original red color. The strike is slightly weak to the reverse with a minor loss of detail to Britannia's shoulder, but overall this piece appears well-made and of high quality. The key to the Victorian Penny series in an excellent technical grade, an offering seldom encountered and sure to attract considerable attention thus.
