George III Crown 1819 MS64 NGC, KM675, S-3787, ESC-Unl. LX on edge. Truly outstanding, to the cataloger's eye either a proof or a remarkably prooflike business strike. This Crown shows a repunched tail in the Q of QUI on the reverse, a rare type in itself; but its main appeal lies in its appearance and quality, both of which are enchanting. The meticulously engraved obverse depiction of George is entirely untouched, with no wear nor hairlines nor apparent contact marks. Surrounding his visage are gently reflective fields, the whole ensemble overlaid with a dappled white-gold toning, whilst in contrast the reverse has toned to a deep moody red, turning gold when spun in the light. A piece which requires in-hand inspection for a full appreciation of its magnificence. Ex. Van Roekel Collection, Christie's Auction 1286, 15th November 2001, lot 198
