British India. Bombay Presidency zinc 2 Pice 1771 AU55 NGC, cf. KM157.1 (different reverse), Prid-238. "M" in BOMB on obverse. Date on reverse. In the name of Georgius Rex (initials on either side of crown on obverse). According to Pridmore, this year saw considerable mintage for these tutenague double and single pice, only to be discontinued two years later with copper overtaking zinc and tin as the metal for these pice issues. Nevertheless, this is one of only three survivors on the NGC census. The flan is slightly oversized, the strike of the obverse just a hint weaker than the reverse, but all detail remains legible and sculpted. Ex. Robert P.
