Description

Philippe le Bon (in the name of Charles VII) gold Ecu d'Or ND (1437-1439) AU58 NGC, Saint Quentin mint, Fr-307, Dup-511. A fascinating type that we will explain with help from text from the previous auction sale of this piece, "Philippe le Bon following the Treaty of Arras, and by obligation, gave a two-year lease to Pierre Fromont, Hacquinet de Mortaigne and Gobert, on February 11, 1437 to mint coins in the name of Charles VII, in the workshops of Amiens and Saint Quentin. Philip the Good imposed on these workshops not to mint coins simultaneously, so that the mintages in the name of Charles VII were as small as possible. However, he continued to manufacture coins in his name in his workshops in the Netherlands. When the lease expired, the Amiens workshop was entrusted to Georges de Caboistre until April 27, 1442, as for that of Saint Quentin, it ceased all activity on January 24, 1439. Extremely rare."
