In the 2nd century BC, Rome's involvement in the Hellenistic world led to the conquest of Macedon. The defeat of King Philip V in 197 BC during the Second Macedonian War resulted in financial penalties and territorial loss for Macedon. In 168 BC, following the Roman victory at the Battle of Pydna, Macedon was officially incorporated as the Roman province of Macedonia, ending its independence. Roman rule brought significant administrative changes, including the appointment of proconsuls as governors and the introduction of Roman legal systems, taxation, language, and infrastructure, reshaping Macedon's governance and aligning it with Roman norms.
