Philip IV gold Cob 2 Escudos ND (1630-1631) C-E MS62 NGC, Cartagena mint, KM4.1, Cal-Type 378, cf. Restrepo-M52-12 (different obverse), Oro Macuquino-116a (different obverse). 6.86gm. A lustrous Mint State survivor with full cross/shield and bold first three digits of the date. Restrepo attributes the reverse with cross only flanked by pellets to 1630 alone, while Oro Macuquino has an example of a 1631 with such reverse. On both cases, the 1630 and 1631 examples have the denomination left, while the present offering has the denomination right, an obverse that Restrepo attributes to 1631-1633. A prime study piece for advanced Spanish colonial collectors. HID09801242017 © 2023 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
