Glarus. Canton "Shooting Festival" 40 Batzen 1847 MS65 NGC, Munich mint, KM20, Dav-373, Richter-803a, Mintage: 3,200. A beguiling example of a type that breathes rarified air at this level of preservation. This piece was likely bound by an elastic band on the obverse, leaving a frosty impression around which developed gunmetal and even charcoal toning. Deposits of Jaffa orange, particularly on the reverse, contrast beautifully with the silvery fields.
