Trajan (AD 98-117). AV aureus (19mm, 7.11 gm, 7h). NGC Choice XF 5/5 - 3/5, Fine Style. Rome, AD 113-114. IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Trajan right, seen from behind / S•P•Q•R•OPTIMO PRINCIPI, Genius (or Bonus Eventus), nude, standing facing, head left, patera in outstretched right hand, grain ears in lowered left hand. Calicó 1092. RIC II 275 var. (no cuirass). Bright surfaces with chiseled, Fine Style portraiture. In honor of his exemplary rule, the Roman Senate in AD 105 bestowed on Trajan the title Optimo Principi, "the Best of Emperors," which he proudly placed on his coinage.
