Nicholas II copper Pattern Kopek 1916 MS62 Brown NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Bit-370 (R3), Brekke-3, UZD-3961 (RRR). Obv. Crowned double-headed eagle in plain circle with surrounding legend of "1 Kopeck" repeated 5 times. Rev. Large "1" in beaded circle with plain field, date and value below. One of only three examples graded across NGC and PCGS of this very challenging Pattern type. The expanses are saturated in a creamy espresso brown, allowing the devices to stand out in strong, coppery juxtaposition. A piece destined for a seasoned cabinet of Russian rarities. During World War I a series of Patterns were made for a proposed devalued currency. Because of the chaos created by the war, this new coinage was abandoned and the patterns disappeared. It has only been recently that the 1 Kopeck Patterns appeared. There are three types of the 1 Kopeck and only a very few pieces are known of the three combined types.
