Victoria Proof Pattern Crown 1845 PR66 Cameo PCGS, KM741, S-3882, ESC-2656 (R6). Medal alignment. An immense rarity even for the advanced British numismatist, who is likely to witness the famed "Una and the Lion" that utilized William Wyon's same young bust, with much greater frequency than this type, which we last saw in PR64 in 2014. On offer is an unquestionably superior representative, in fact, the finest of any 1845-dated Crown submitted to either grading service, whether business strike or Proof. Wholly encompassed in a fine, nacreous patina rich in marigold and amber, ever painstakingly engraved detail rises in clear contrast against its surroundings, lending to the coveted "Cameo" superlative. Outside of the well-representative "Gothic" Crown series, this may in fact be among the most beautiful Victorian Crowns extant, and is worthy of interest commensurate with that fact.
