Regensburg. Free City 8 Ducat ND (1749)-ICB MS61 NGC, KM343 (Rare), Fr-2521. 27.86gm. With portrait, name, and title of Franz I. An exceptionally scarce yet highly successful gold issue featuring Regensburg's instantly recognizable "City View," depicting the medieval engineering feat that is the Stone Bridge crossing the Danube. Both faces remain expertly preserved and fully struck up, seemingly placed on the perfect canvas to fully appreciate the level of depth and perspective displayed here. While the low-lying fields remit grade-defining marks and wisps, this does little to diminish the overall honeyed appeal and reflectivity that elevates this coin's aesthetic caliber. A top-tier specimen that appears to be the only example of this type to appear on the market in more than 20 years, last selling in 2013, and remains a target for the Regensburg specialist who undoubtedly will take interest.
