Description

Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Alfred Proof 5 Mark 1895-A PR65 NGC, Berlin mint, KM160, Dav-828, J-146. A low-mintage and highly elusive one-year type from the German duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. The business strike mintage for the type was limited to 4,000 and while the Proof mintage is unlisted, Proofs are seen far less often than the already scarce standard coinage. This example exhibits a mottled dark patina but there are just enough lighter colored effervescent hues to provide the coin with a satisfying, powerful glow. This is the first Proof type of the issue we will see cross our auction block, and we anticipate a healthy fervor during bidding. Ex.
