Hamburg. Free City Proof 5 Mark 1908-J PR66 NGC, Hamburg mint, KM610, J-65. Another exceptional outlier from the 5 Mark Proof series. From the penultimate date for its type, this specimen flashes unreservedly in hand, seemingly wearing blast-white surfaces until very subtle emerald and magenta tone manifests in the fields when viewed at the correct angle. Appearing wholly infrequently at auction and even more so at this state of preservation, the type sees only eleven graded examples across NGC and PCGS, the current specimen bested by a single PR68 certified by PGCS.
