Description

Straits Settlements Government of the Straits Settlements 100 Dollars 1.2.1901 Pick 4C PMG Choice Fine 15. The Government of the Straits Settlements is among the most enthusiastically collected issuer of banknotes, and despite this, there are still many impressive rarities to entice collectors. In today's sale is an exciting and almost improbable group of notes, extremely rare in their respective grades and originality. This iconic $100 represented serious buying power in Penang, Malacca, Dindings, Singapore, and Labuan, which were the principle territories of the Straits Settlements at the turn of the 20th century. Despite some circulation, all major details remain visible. The stalking tiger on the back and large "HUNDRED" remain clear. Some internal splits are mentioned for accuracy. This is only the third authentic example of this denomination ever graded by PMG. Additionally, we have not offered this type in the past. It is the humble observation of the cataloger that the technical grade of this note may be conservative, as the eye appeal is surprisingly good. Although the opening bid and low estimate may at first appear jaw dropping, this too will prove conservative, as bidding will be fierce on this perhaps once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. An equally rare $50 denomination and a $100 contemporary counterfeit are among the other Straits Settlements highlights in today's sale. Iconic, extremely rare, and an amazing opportunity.
