French Overseas Department bronze Specimen Essai Piefort 50 Centimes 1896 SP62 Red and Brown PCGS, Paris mint, KM-PE1A, Lec-37 (cf.). Edge marked (cornucopia) MCHOR ESSAI. The double-thick planchet this splendid Essai (pattern) issue was struck on is impressive to behold, especially when it is showcased so well in this PCGS slab which allows one to easily view most of the edge of a coin. The mercury design is quite fetching and there is just enough reddish luster to earn a Red Brown designation. These Reunion Essai issues are seldom offered in piefort.
