George III gilt bronze "Peace of Amiens" Medal 1801 MS61 NGC, BHM-516, Eimer-935. By Henry Kettle of Kettle & Sons, Birmingham. 38mm. Obv. An oval shield in the form of the British flag mounted on crossed shields, surrounded by text. Rev. Robed Eirene, standing half right upon a quay, holding an olive branch in right hand, and emptying a cornucopia cradled under left arm. The Peace of Amiens brought a fourteen-month respite during the Napoleonic Wars but ended when Britain declared war on France in May 1803. Kettle’s expert bronze doré technique boasts near-reflective surfaces and radiant devices. Only the presence of wisping limits the assigned grade. Also in silver and bronze. Scarce in gilded bronze.
